Tisva executives, together with the Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Professor Dr Mohammad Yunus, the world’s founder and leader of Microcredit; launched the Turkey Grameen Microfinance Program in Turkey on 11 June 2003. Tisva President of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Aziz AKGÜL mentions that as of January 23, 2017, approximately 160,000 poor and lowincome women (about 600,000 people, along with their families) have been reached. As of January 23, 2017, the distributed loan amount is 602 million TL. Below you will find details of this interesting aid and support work presented by TISVA. Why Microcredit? We believe that the reduction of poverty in society can not be solved only through aids in the form of donations. For this reason; while believing that it is a humane duty to go to the homes of
•Elderly people unable to work,
•Patients and handicapped people unable to work,to meet their in-kind and in-cash needs, those people who are able to work should be provided with a small capital so that they can make income-generating activities on their own without opening their hands to another person.
Generally speaking, there is a need for a lifeline or support to be able to turn personal talents into work. The support provided at this point is the Microcredit given as a small capital. Because the most important factor that unemployed and low-income people do not have is capital. It is known that investments, production, and exports must be increased to reduce unemployment and poverty in the long run. However, besides this development, microlevel practices are also needed to see the results of long-term policies. Practice of Microcredit In the microcredit process, 5-people group dynamics are applied, and documents are not required except for the declaration of the person. No collateral and security are requested for members taking microcredit, and no application is made to the executive office or court. In the practice of microcredit practice, lowincome women who have no assets are always a priority in getting credit. The fact that credit is a human right is the basic philosophy of Microcredit. The commercial banks provide credit according to the collateral and the guarantee provided, while the Microcredit Program is based on giving credit to the people. The more collateral you have, the more credit you get from commercial banks. In microcredit, on the other hand, “the less you have, the more priority you have.” The members who are included in the microcredit system are regarded as they have gone on a journey. Because every poor income person in the system continues to receive support until they exceed the poverty line. It is being carried out very successfully in 67 cities in Turkey.
